When my babies were born, I leapt into the world of motherhood and found myself blindsided by doubt, lack of support and inconsistent information. I was a single mother for many years, constantly questioning my abilities while I worked tirelessly to build a life for my kids. Most of the time, I thought the overwhelm was because I was a single mom, now I know it’s because I was a new mom. I spent those 9 months of my pregnancies planning to be earth mama; breastfeeding serenely, making organic baby food from scratch, reading and singing to them and talking to my mom and sisters for support.
That was a far cry from my reality and from the hundreds of new mamas I know. The reality looks something like crying in the bathroom in the 5 minutes I got to myself each day. Crying babies, sore nipples, no sleep and barely a shower each week. Feeling isolated from my friends, my life and even separate from myself. The worst part? I thought I was the only one. Everyone else I knew took to motherhood like a second skin. What was wrong with me?
4th Trimester Support
These feelings of incompetence and overwhelm led me to dedicate my life to helping new moms find their way through the 4th trimester. Those feelings of being burnt out in your parenthood, exhaustion and overwhelm are not necessary. They are not a phase that must be endured. Managing emotions, even in the face of the storm of parenthood is a learned skill. A skill that I teach you so that you can be the parent/partner and person you want to be.
This is why I became a Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Postpartum Coach. I wanted to end the suffering that parents often experience after giving birth. The suffering that comes from doubt, lack of support and inconsistent information.
Every new parent should feel confident. You should feel a connection to your children without losing touch with who you are.
Since that time, 19 years ago, I have helped hundreds of new families on their path to this, most primal role in their lives. They are now experiencing all the things I wished for.
